A little bit about me

Welcome to my website.

It will take a little while to fine-tune things.   But I’ve got to start somewhere.
Just a little about me.
I was a garden designer before taking up painting full-time.
I am too old to be digging and planting.  Anyway, it is far easier to create a beautiful landscape with a brush rather than a spade.   So now in the winter evenings, I paint beside my stove.

The nice things people say

“I first became aware of Eilish’s work through a friend of mine who used to hang some of her pictures in his shop. Every time I was in there I was drawn to whatever painting of hers were displaying and I remember casually asking who the artist was.  I would make a mental note of her name and promise myself that if I ever got the chance to attend an exhibition of Eilish’s work I would,  however my own work kept me out of Brian’s shop for about 2 months and when eventually I made my way back in ,there hanging on the wall were more paintings.  One in particular caught my eye and I was determined to have it.   I put a deposit down and am now the proud owner of 3 of Eilish’s paintings.  I think for me its Eilish’s application of colour that draws me in.   I’ll probably at some point end up with another painting of Eilish’s just to make it an even 4 and I’ll have no complaints about it because I really love her work.”

I adore animals, nature and the changing of the seasons.
The reason why I create art is simple.  Escapism.  Beauty, Nature, Love and Colour is what I want to capture.  Painting makes my heart sing.  I go into my own dream world for hours.  I need that space like I need air.
My work is emotional, colourful and free from learned constraints of formal training and the snobbery often associated with art.  Me and formal just don’t go together in the same sentence.  I like to just do my own thing.  Otherwise what’s the point?   Being self-taught has allowed me to be as carefree as a child who has their own individual way and point of view.  Art is a language of its own.  It is the quickest form of communication, and the viewer may really get it, or it’s not for them.
I paint for the freedom of it.

I did however, study healing with colour.
We may be attracted by the colour alone or the subject alone. However, if the subject and colour match the vibration of the viewer, then that’s what speaks their language.
I believe that every colour has its own vibration and sound.  Much like the keys of a piano.  The lighter the colour, the higher the octave.  There is a symphony playing out there in nature, if we could only but hear it. Yet we feel the benefit of it. Especially when we walk barefoot on the grass or sand.

“I truly believe that the further away we get from nature, the more out of tune WE ourselves become.
Am I a tree hugger?  Heck yeah.”

Seascapes

I moved home a lot over the years, but this is the first time that I have been so close to the sea.  It has changed me, big time.   Gosh, the sea is never the same colour from one minute to the next, and I find that fascinating.  I love painting seas and skies. Trying to capture it can be a task because of the quickness of change, but the result, when achieved, can be immensely satisfying.
Skies  and sunsets in the West of Ireland

I lived in Co. Clare for a number of years, and the sunsets were unbelievable.  There were no big buildings or trees along the coast of the Atlantic where I was.  There was nothing to obscure the view.  I was a lot younger and afraid that if I really painted what I saw that nobody would believe that skies could be so unbelievably colourful.  The influence of the time spent there never left me, nor will. The West is hauntingly beautiful.

Sunrises

Sunrises down along the east coast are every bit as dramatic as the west, but in reverse.  The light in the southeast, where I live now, can’t be matched, in my opinion. There is just something about it.  My gallery is in Kilmore Quay, and a bright light seems to be constantly hovering above the water.  I have no trouble knowing where Kilmore Quay is when I look along the horizon, even from a 30-mile distance.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my page.  There is lots more I could say, but I can’t express in any other way except through my work.
